YOGA PRACTICE

A variety of traditional and modern yoga practices are offered for individuals and small groups, tailored to accommodate your specific needs and wellness goals. No matter what level, from beginners to advanced practitioners, all can expect growth and expansion. I bring the benefits of private yoga instruction to you, in the comfort of your home, workplace or studio, recreational parks, beachfront locations or any designated venue. Practice options are Hatha Fundamentals, Hatha Moon, Sun and Fire, Yin Yoga, Yoga Sculpt, Meditation and Breathing. A key difference in Hatha Yoga versus most modern yoga styles is the priority of function over form. Function is the effect of a pose; the specific movement of the spine, the impact on internal organs, physiology, subtle anatomy, mind, and energy. Hatha Yoga is an intentional stage by stage progression based on time tested ancient knowledge aiming to guide us toward living an extraordinary life. All classes offered target the full scope of the human being: physical, energetic, mental, and spiritual. Class descriptions are listed below.

Class Descriptions

Hatha Fundamentals: Purification and Strengthening

What is Hatha Yoga? Hatha is a 7 stage progression designed to align and calm your body, mind, and spirit in preparation for meditation. This class is designed for those new to yoga - slow paced and safe; an introduction to the various elements of Hatha Yoga and will lay the foundation for a lasting practice. The first 2 stages of Hatha Yoga are purification and strengthening. You’ll learn basic names for poses, how to move your body safely and effectively, and how to breathe more efficiently. You will build strength in basic poses with the use of props (if needed) and correct alignment, while discovering how your breath can generate internal heat as I guide you through a calming and stabilizing sequence. This class is also suitable for more experienced students wishing to refine their alignment, strength and breath work, and those recovering from injuries.

Hatha Moon: Calm and Stable 

Basic knowledge of poses and breathing techniques is recommended for a more enjoyable experience. Stages 3 and 4 of Hatha Yoga use asana to cultivate stability and calmness of both body and mind. Expect a deep, nourishing asana practice with longer holds to build strength and improve flexibility, while staying centered and grounded. Both standing poses and floor work are used to guide awareness inwards to touch that pure space of stillness. These practices are flavored with forward folds, twists, and conscious exhales.

Hatha Sun: Energize and Expand

Basic knowledge of poses and breathing techniques is recommended for a more enjoyable experience. Stages 5 and 6 of Hatha Yoga create vibrancy, health, and power. These intermediate asana practices are systematic and dynamic, and include conscious vinyasa, standing poses, and floor work. Expect to move and breath deeply. Laterals and backbends will guide us deeper into our own energetic potency. (75 min)

Hatha Fire: Illumination and Heat

The final stage of Hatha Yoga is ideal for an advanced yogi. Those who are mentally calm and stable, have cultivated a deep relationship to prana and redirect it effectively, are ready to let go of attachment to asana, and are ready to add deeper layers. These practices bring together all elements, combining Moon and Sun techniques. Expect to move and breath deeply. All pose categories are explored working toward extensions and inversions. (75min)

Yoga Sculpt

A complete total body workout that combines yoga poses with light weights to increase strength and stamina. This fun and invigorating class burns fat, improves fitness, builds strength, tones, while improving balance, releasing stress and increasing flexibility. Basic knowledge of poses is recommended for a more enjoyable experience.

Yin Deep Stretch Restore

Mostly ground-based stretching often using props to support the body. These practices typically involve only five or six poses and are held for 3 -5 minutes. Restorative poses include light twists, seated forward folds, and gentle backbends. This class is suitable for students of all levels wanting to unwind and relax, but also reap the rewards of stretching the body. (75 min)

Meditation and Breathing

Join me for a journey beyond physical asana! In this powerful class, we will explore the subtle energy of the body through an intentional connection to the breath and guided meditation aimed at calming the body and quieting the mind. (30 min)
